Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!!

I am loving being at home. The weather is beautiful and sunny and warm and I'm surrounded by family and friends and it is so great!

Today is my Mom's birthday and we're taking turkey sandwiches to the park for a picnic by the ocean. This is such a beautiful city. I don't really know how I left! I feel so far removed from my Montreal life, it almost feels like I never left.

I hope everyone had a really great Christmas and is relaxing and enjoying family and friends. :)

I snapped this photo with my cell phone of my favourite little neighbourhood park on the way to the metro yesterday. It looks a lot like Christmas, no? Very pretty, but very cold still. The tragic thing is that today felt really "warm" and I guessed it was only around 0 or -5 degrees and I came home and looked up the weather and realized that it's actually -10 degrees outside. Since when is -10 "warm"?! Let me just say for the record one more time that I cannot wait to go back to BC with its 8 degrees and rain! The snow is pretty and Christmasy, though, I cannot deny that.

So I spent the weekend up in Rosemère at Lyndsey's mom's house, which is a town (suburb?) out of Montreal. At the house the Christmas carols were playing and there was a tree and present wrapping, and I felt like adopting myself into their family as surrogate daughter, because I really feel like I'm missing out on all the really fun and festive Christmas preparations this year! I'm missing hanging out with my own mom and wrapping presents by the tree and drinking tea by the fire while listening to Christmas carols. I'll have one day to do that with my family - Christmas Eve. One day to wrap presents, enjoy the tree and its presents, bake shortbread and gingersnap cookies, visit friends, and then the relatives come and Christmas starts! Wow, it's definitely a weird, whirlwind Christmas for me this year.

And speaking of whirlwind, I have a giant to-do list to accomplish before Wednesday, and I should get crack-a-lackin'!!!

I was looking through some photos from last Christmas and I found this photo of me and the girls in my old apartment. Man, I really miss that apartment. I think I just miss having a place that feels like mine. Like home. My current apartment just feels kinda blah and I haven't made it that homey because it was never going to be permanent. And I miss my girls, and my beautiful couch, and that lovely red painting... Looking at that photo makes me homesick. BC has been calling my name lately more than ever...

This photo is from my work Christmas party which was on Monday night, one of the many parties that I went to in the past week! Thankfully the craziness is over - there were a few too many late nights and beverages consumed! Haha.

Now I can focus on Christmas (and finishing my shopping!)!! In a week I'll be HOME! I am so, so excited to see my family and friends again, and get away from the ridiculously cold Montreal temperatures! I'll be home for over a week, so there will be lots of time to visit, unlike when I was home for Thanksgiving and had only 2 days to see as many people as possible!! There will actually be some relaxing this time!

So much has happened in the past week that I don't even know what to write about. OH! Highlight of the day today: watching Grey's Anatomy at lunch in Lynds' office and CRYING because it was so intense and emotional. Yes, yes, I cried at work watching TV. And then, of course as I'm dabbing my eyes with a tissue, one of the guys came in and saw me crying and made fun of me for the rest of the day! Hahaha. Ah man, I'm so ridiculous.

Okay, shower + bed.

Christmas photo post

Merry Christmas!!

Oooh look at all the presents!!!

This is my wonderful brother who didn't want to get his photo taken on Christmas morning, and who just left for Singapore for 4 months! *tear*

Pops and me

Christmas morning was so beautiful and sunny, my parents and I braved the elements to go for a walk and work up a turkey appetite.

This past weekend, at the mountain snowshoeing and snowboarding. So preeeetty.

Corona + snow + 11 AM = priceless.

Let it snow

What is it about snow that makes everything so quiet? Is it because it blankets everything and muffles sound? Or because it makes people here not want to drive and so I hear no traffic noise? I can't decide.

I'm feeling pretty cozy in my apartment right now as the first snow of the year falls quietly outside my window. So much is falling, which is so unusual for here. The temperature is supposed to stay below zero for this whole week, so the snow will likely stick around. Perfect timing to get into the Christmas spirit. :)

Today was my Christmas party for work, and I think we got pretty spoiled - we played the presents game where you can unwrap or steal a present. I ended up with a scarf & mittens set as well as a $75 gift card to Winners. What I was really fighting for was a cute purple luggage set, which included a wheely carry-on bag, but it got stolen from me, damn it! But now maybe I can use my gift card to go buy one...

Last night I had a housewarming party and it was fabulous. I made hot apple cider which I then poured generous amounts of red wine into, and I had cookies and rice krispie squares to eat. Lots of fun and festivities were had! I think it's about time I posted some photos of my new place, don't you?

Christmas shopping turns into me-shopping

Why is it that when you go Christmas shopping you end up buying more for yourself than for other people? Seriously, that is just silly.

Laurel and I went downtown today for lunch and for a shopping adventure, wherein I managed to buy tiny little presents to stuff in cards for my work people, and also a sweater, a toque, and a wreath for me. Hum.

At least the wreath is festive. Although I have no way to hang it, so it's just looking sad and dejected lying on my kitchen table. And here's the question about how to hang a wreath: do you hang it on the outside of your door, so all the lovely apartment passersby can enjoy it, and it can risk getting stolen? Or do you hang it on the inside of your door so that you can see it all the time and enjoy it?
